WPC And ETA Registration
Introduction
Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing (WPC) is a division of Wireless Planning and Finance Wing (WPF) of the Department of Telecom (DoT) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeiT), Government of India. The Chief mandate of WPC wing is to plan and coordinate the efforts to control and regulate the wireless devices in India for their safety, privacy and interference with other electronic devices.
An entity engaged in manufacturing or import of wireless devices is required to get Equipment Type Approval (ETA) & Import Registration (IL) Registration from the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) wing. In the electronics and telecommunication market of India, various types of wireless communication are available such as mobile phones, Cordless telephones, Zigbee wireless technology, GPS, Wi-Fi, satellite television, and wireless computer parts.
Benefits of WPC & ETA Registration
In 2026, the import process is heavily automated.
- Faster Turnaround: Having your WPC registration linked to your Import Export Code (IEC) allows for "Green Channel" clearance, reducing port storage costs and delivery delays.
- Risk Mitigation: It prevents your inventory from being stuck in "Customs Bonded" warehouses, which can otherwise lead to massive financial losses and supply chain breaks.
It guarantees your product won't interfere with critical national infrastructure, such as aviation, defense, or emergency services.
3. Device Stability
Certified products are tested for RF (Radio Frequency) emissions, ensuring they perform reliably alongside other wireless devices without signal dropping.
4. Safety Assurance
It signals to the customer that the device meets Indian safety standards regarding RF exposure and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
5. Faster Customs Clearance
- ETA-approved products are cleared quickly at customs checkpoints.
- Reduces shipment delays and demurrage costs.
- Prevents rejection of products by authorities or marketplaces.
- Ensures uninterrupted sales and distribution.
- Enhances brand trust among customers, distributors, and partners.
- Demonstrates compliance with Indian telecom regulations.
Process of WPC & ETA Registration
- Create an Account: Register your company on the Saral Sanchar Portal.
- Profile Completion: You will need to upload your company’s legal documents, such as the Import Export Code (IEC), GST registration, and an Authorization Letter for the signatory.
Before applying, your product must be tested for RF (Radio Frequency) emissions.
- Testing: You must get your device tested at an NABL-accredited Indian laboratory or an authorized foreign lab.
- The Report: The lab will issue a Test Report confirming that the device operates within the permitted frequency bands (e.g., 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) and meets the power limit standards.
- Once the application is filled, you must pay the government fee (currently ₹10,000 per model) through the integrated Bharat Kosh payment gateway.
4. Application Review & Verification
The authority reviews the application and verifies submitted documents.
Any discrepancies or additional requirements are communicated for correction.
4. Approval & ETA Certificate Issuance
Once verified, the authority grants:
- ETA (Equipment Type Approval) Certificate
- Unique Approval Number
