Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) mandates that every manufacturer of electronic or electric equipment must relocate or shift e-waste to a licensed dismantler or recycler to ensure environmentally sound treatment. This involves setting up systems for the collection, transportation, and proper recycling or disposal of electronic waste, ensuring it is handled in a way that minimizes environmental impact and maximizes resource recovery. The aim is to prevent harmful substances from entering the environment and to promote the recycling of valuable materials contained in e-waste.
The EPR Authorization certificate is mandatory for manufacturers and importers of electrical & electronic items, plastic products, lead acid battery, & tyres. The EPR Authorization ensures that a systematic method for the disposal of e-waste, plastic waste, battery waste, & tyre waste is followed, and that this disposal is conducted in a manner that avoids any negative environmental impact. Issued by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (Moef), the EPR certificate guarantees that the management of waste is conducted responsibly and without hazards to the environment.
