Used oil Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs are designed to manage the lifecycle of used oil. Producers of base oil or lubrication oil, as well as importers of used oil, are obligated to comply with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) based on the quantity of base oil or lubrication oil placed in the market and the quantity of used oil imported.
These producers must meet their EPR obligations by purchasing Extended Producer Responsibility Registrations from registered recyclers. According to Paragraph 26 of the relevant rules, producers, collection agents, recyclers, and used oil importers are required to register on the EPR portal developed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to ensure compliance with the regulatory framework. This system facilitates the proper tracking, collection, and recycling of used oil, contributing to sustainable waste management practices.
