The One Nation One Fertilizer (ONOF) initiative is a Government Policy in India aimed at unifying fertilizer branding and ensuring affordable and accessible fertilizers across the country. It was introduced in September 2022 by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Urvarak Pariyojana.
Unified Branding:
All fertilizers, irrespective of the manufacturer or seller, are now sold under the “Bharat” brand.
Examples:
Urea is labeled as Bharat Urea.
Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) is Bharat DAP.
Muriate of Potash (MOP) is Bharat MOP.
NPK fertilizers are labeled as Bharat NPK.
The One Nation One Fertilizer (ONOF) initiative, introduced by the Government of India, mandates a uniform brand and packaging for all subsidized fertilizers under the "Bharat" brand. It aims to unify the fertilizer sector, simplify supply chains, and reduce disparities among farmers. As part of this scheme, all companies producing subsidized fertilizers such as urea, di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), and complex fertilizers must adhere to a standardized packaging design bearing the "Bharat" logo and the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Urvarak Pariyojana insignia.
The primary objective is to ensure that farmers across the country receive high-quality fertilizers at uniform rates while eliminating confusion caused by the presence of multiple brands in the market. By consolidating branding under the government’s oversight, the scheme fosters transparency, combats malpractices, and ensures equitable access to essential nutrients for crops.
The ONOF scheme is driven by several strategic objectives that align with India’s vision of self-reliance (“Atmanirbhar Bharat”) and sustainable agricultural growth
The One Nation One Fertilizer scheme is a farmer-centric initiative designed to address their needs and challenges. Key benefits include:

The One Nation One Fertilizer scheme is a bold and visionary initiative with the potential to transform Indian agriculture. By ensuring uniformity, transparency, and accessibility in the fertilizer sector, the scheme addresses critical challenges faced by farmers and promotes equitable growth. However, its success hinges on effective implementation, stakeholder collaboration, and sustained efforts to educate and empower farmers. If executed well, this scheme can serve as a model for other agricultural reforms, contributing to India’s long-term goals of food security, rural development, and economic resilience.
