How to apply for FSSAI license for food business in multiple states?

If a Food Business Operator (FBO) has food business premises in two or more states, he must obtain a Central License for his Registered Office or Head Office, as well as licenses/registrations for each unit/premise. Depending on the capability or turnover of each unit/premise, a separate licence or registration must be obtained from the concerned Central or State licencing authorities.

ABC Pvt.ltd has five outlets in three different states and head office and one store of company located in Delhi, and two stores located in Noida and one store located in Gurgaon. In the given situation, the  FBO can apply for The Central license for Head office and four other license which depend on turnover of that particular unit.

As per FSSAI, the types of  Food Licenses are as following: 

• FSSAI Basic License - If the turnover of an FBO is upto 12 lakh/annum
• FSSAI State License - if the turnover of a business is above 12 lakh and upto 20 crore.
• FSSAI Central License - if the turnover of a business is more than 20 crore.

How to register for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)

Basic registration

• The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has dedicated website named "foscos" wherein a Food Business Operator (FBO) can login by creating user id and password after filling some basic details of unit. Once the user id and password has been generated, the Food Business Operator (FBO) can fill the form and pay the Govt fee which are 100/year. As per The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) guidelines, The FSSAI Authority will issue the certificate within 30 days.
• If any objection is raised by the Concerned FSSAI official, Food Business Operator (FBO) need to file clarification within 30 days and again wait for 30 days because now, the days will be counted from last update.

Procedure to Apply online for FSSAI State / FSSAI Central License

• The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has a dedicated website - foscos, wherein a Food Business Operator (FBO) can login by creating user id and password after filling some basic details of unit.
• Once the user id and password is generated, the Food Business Operator (FBO) can fill the form and pay the Govt fee, Rs.2000/year + GST@18%. The Govt fee can be paid for a maximum of five years, in one application.  As per The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) guidelines, the FSSAI State License may be issued by the Authority within 60 days.
• In the FSSAI State License application, a site visit by the concerned FSSAI official may be required, if the applicant is a mnufacturing enterprise.

• If any document query is issued by Athority, the Food Business Operator (FBO) needs to file clarification within 15 - 20 days, after which the FSSAI State License is issued.
