As we all know that the business of food and related activities directly impacts the health of the citizens of any Country, all the Governments tend to keep a tight vigil on this business. To enable that, the food business and its owners are expected to maintain an optimum level of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety. To monitor this, The Indian Government has developed a set of requirements that a food business must follow. These are called as food business compliances.

  • Only the food additives allowed by the provisions of the Food Safety Standards Act 2006, should be used in food processing.
  • As per the provisions of the Food Safety Standards Act 2006, no food item should contain contamination or toxic substances in the food.
  • Any article of food found with the insecticides or pesticides, veterinary solvent, drugs, antibiotics, and pharmacologically active substances would be unfit for consumption and discarded immediately
  • The packaging and labeling of the food packet must provide accurate information and no information on the packaged food should be false or misleading

The Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is the apex Government agency for the food business. An applicant is required to visit the FSSAI official website and submit the login ID and password, that he/she received during the online application of FSSAI food license. The applicant is then required to go to the compliance section of the FSSAI portal and enter the required details in the website.

There is no Government fee for submission of food license compliances. If an agency is hired for this purpose, it may charge you Rs.5,000 to Rs.10,000 for yearly basis compliance submissions.

Introduction

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) was established by the Central Government to lay down science-based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import, to ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption and for matters connected with or incidental thereto.

No one shall manufacture, distribute, sell, expose for sale, dispatch or provide to any agent or broker for the purpose of selling any packaged food goods that are not marked and labelled in the way authorised by rules.

Every food business operator must ensure that the labelling and presentation of food, including their shape, appearance, or packaging, the packaging materials used, the manner in which they are arranged and displayed, and the information made available about them via any medium, do not mislead consumers.
