The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board for Prevention and Control of Water Pollution was established by the Government of Karnataka on the 21st of September, 1974, in accordance with the Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974. This legislation aims to prevent and control water pollution and ensure the maintenance or restoration of water wholesomeness. Subsequent to the introduction of the Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, the responsibility for enforcement was delegated to the aforementioned Board. Consequently, the Board underwent a name change to become the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board in 1985. The Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 is designed to address the prevention, control, and abatement of air pollution.
